You may continue to use Quicken for Mac 2007 for as long as you like and for as long as it continues to run, but be aware that the product may stop working if Apple removes legacy technology, which Apple has warned will happen in a future version of macOS (previously OS X).

Shortcomings aside, Quicken Mac 2007 provides a financial management package that performs well, lives up to the reputation established with previous versions, and provides detailed reports.

They can't really call it Quicken 2012 if it has zero new features. Release notes (Quicken Support Site) Full release notes for each update. Those programmers are working on other things (Quicken Essentials, QuickBooks, TurboTax,, whatever). It is enough for some, but not for all, Quicken 2007 users. As its name implies, it is a bare-bones financial management application. Instead, you could think of it as a successor to Quicken 2007, but one that lacks some of Quicken 2007’s features.

It is not really an update for Quicken 2007 users. Quicken Essentials is a rather pathetic product, particularly if you value online bill pay so well provided by Quicken. Because Intuit discontinued development of Quicken for Mac. Quicken Essentials for Mac was released in 2010. You are correct that Quicken for Mac 2007 will not run in the Intel platform with Lion, which has discontinued PowerPC support previously provided by Rosetta in Leopard and Snow Leopard.
